American Special is a line of both electric guitars and basses. It is the American series for all players. The models featured in the series lineup come for around $1,000 and offer the genuine Fender quality and tone. The roster is frequently modified and updated with both the new models and refreshed old models. For 2016 NAMM, Fender has prepared two American Special models - the Stratocaster and Stratocaster HSS. This is the review of the regular S/S/S Strat. Solid and flat body, 25-1/2" sale, 22-fret fingerboard, passive Fender electronics and Fender hardware make this stellar six-string. The body of this Special Strat is made of alder (just like the rest of the American range) and is paired with a bolt-on maple neck (a catalog-wide feature). The neck is equipped with the modern C contour in the back and a 22-fret fingerboard on top (both the rosewood and maple versions are available). 1.685" synthetic bone nut, dot inlays and 9.5" radius are featured on the fingerboard (goes for both options). electronics section is a standard one. It features a trio of Texas Special Single-Coil Strat pickups. Along with them, a standard four-piece controls unit is installed: master volume, two tone knobs and a five-position blade switch. String-through-body Fender tremolo bridge and Fender tuners complete the specs list. All in all, this is your standard issue, general-purpose 22-fret Strat guitar. It plays country, blues, rock, alternative music, punk, reggae, ska. Pretty much everything outside of the metal realm.
