200 models in the signature series made by ESP signify the budget-oriented variants of already existing, expensive signatures. Such is the case with George Lynch signature series, as well. GL-200MT is an affordable variant of the M-1 model. Pricier models feature maple and alder bodies, while the 200 guitars have basswood bodies. GL-200MT also has a solid, flat and double-cut body made of basswood. Color scheme is the same as on M-1, it has a yellow base with black tiger stripes. Bridge section is equipped with a black Floyd Rose bridge. There`s only one pickup, a passive ESP. It`s a bridge pickup and it is a humbucker. Maple neck has U contour and it`s bolted. 22-fret rosewood fingerboard on it`s top is equipped with dot inlays.

In order to understand the reason for my review, I must disclose that I am longtime Ibanez collector and player. That said, I have also been a Lynch fan since 1984. When these Lynch LTDs came out, I had to give one a shot--I have had an ESP M-II and Mirage Deluxe in my collection years ago, and swore I would never own an LTD--only ESPs. Now that I got that out of the way, on with the review. I am writing this review in the same format that I review gear on various other websites, as it makes it easier to narrow in on the particulars. ---------------------------------------- ***Ease of Use: The guitar is a typical Strat-style 6-string shredder, 22 frets, one humbucker, double-locking tremolo and a volume knob. Since it has but one pickup, there is no need to fumble around with a switch. I never use a tone knob on ANY of my guitars! In fact, I always disconnect them and either replace the pot with an onboard active circuit or just move my volume pot to that hole. This guitar has the exact features I like most. ***Features: I mentioned the basics above, but will break down a few specifics here. All of the specs are also listed above in the product description, so there is no need for redundancy--I will focus on the best. --The graphic finish is spectacular! Every Lynch fan remembers this as the first of many cool graphics we would see on Lynch guitars over the next 30 years. It was first seen in their first music video Breaking the Chains. Yes, Booger was in that video, too--but the yellow tiger was the prominent guitar. The finish is nicely done and topped off with a good clearcoat. I could not find any flaws in craftsmanship here. Sure, it would be nice to have the graphic on the back like George, but this is the LTD version. --The neck is one of the nicest necks I have played--and as I am an Ibanez fanatic in love with the Wizard profile, this GL-200MT neck was a great surprise! The neck is the heart of any guitar, and ESP delivered on this one. I like the Lynch Original U-shape very much, and the extra jumbo frets are what I like on all of my guitars. This neck is very easy to navigate, even for smaller hands. --I like that ESP decided to start putting the Floyd Rose special on these GL series. While not as heavy-duty as the Original Floyd Rose, it is still a very good trem. It has the steel baseplate and the same measurements as an Original Floyd Rose. This means that you guitar modifiers and tinkerers can swap out the stock zinc saddles for the steel ones--the same goes for the locknut string pads. --The stock ESP LH-150 humbucker is not bad...not bad at all. It has plenty of meat to it and when the volume is rolled back, will give a nice flavor. It also sounds pretty decent when playing clean. Again, roll back the volume knob for a less aggressive tone. --The body is basswood, so you will not slip a disk in your back when playing. Yes, the "Maple Tiger" is not a "maple-body" guitar, but again--this is the LTD version. In order to keep the price point affordable for most of us, they have to make adjustments somewhere. Regardless, the body feels great, and the contours are comfortable. ***Reliability: This guitar is built to last. It has great features and is put together well. Sure, you will have to set it up to taste once you get one, but we all do that with every new guitar. While this will never be my "main guitar," it is certainly one that I will always have handy as a backup, for cranking out Dokken tunes or just to enjoy something different for a change. ***Value: The original retail price on these was $499.00, but this model was discontinued. You can still find one on auction sites and in the used gear section of guitar shops. Even at the original retail price, this guitar was a definite deal. It has features and specs found on more expensive guitars, but still plays and sounds better than most of those...cough EVH Striped Series.....cough....cough. ***Overall Impression: As mentioned above, this guitar ROCKS! I absolutely love mine and will never part with it. It is built to last, has great stock components and can be easily upgraded with a few special modifications to really make it shine! Oh yeah, about those modifications..... While this guitar kicks butt out of the gate, I used it as a test bed for some other gear to review--and because I wanted my GL-200MT to be even better. --Replaced the Floyd Special with a Schaller Floyd Rose. --Replaced the trem block with a 1/2"x 37mm brass block for more sustain. --Replaced the spring claw with a brass claw. --Replaced trem springs with noiseless springs. --Replaced the ESP humbucker with a DiMarzio Titan. And, even though the neck is very nice, I ordered an aftermarket replacement neck that has the same specs, but with a rosewood fretboard and the Lynch "Hooker" headstock. I want mine to look as much like his as possible. I hope this review is helpful for you all. I am not sure who knocked it down for "quality," but they might not be experienced at setting up guitars properly, or have a crappy amp. Take it from someone who has been playing for over 30 years, has over 40 guitars and builds/modifies guitars constantly--this ESP LTD GL-200MT is one of the BEST guitars for the money!!!

Nice guitar for the money. I have several George Lynch models and they are all above average quality very well built. This guitar plays great. I love the neck profile and the overall feel of the guitar. Would love to upgrade the pickups, but the factory PU's are nice.
