Tony Iommi, known widely as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal", has been playing Gibson and Epiphone models for decades. In fact, he almost exclusively played SG guitars throughout his career. His collaboration with Gibson and Epiphone has produced some of the heaviest SG guitars ever made.
Limited Edition Tony Iommi Signature SG Custom comes clad in black or the Ebony, as it is called in Gibson/Epiphone dictionary. It rocks a solid, double-cut SG body with beveled edges and iconic "Devil Horns" cutaway. The body is, of course, made entirely of mahogany. Also, it is paired with a fast and smooth mahogany neck. Glued-in neck rocks the 1960s slim taper profile in the back (the fore runner of the modern speed necks) and a bound ebony fingerboard on top. Fingerboard comes with a set of 24 frets, pearloid cross inlays and 1.68" wide graphite string nut.
Electronics department is treated to a pair of Gibson USA Tony Iommi signature humbuckers. The pickups are active and give a massive, immensely powerful tone with that vintage `70s Sabbath vibe to it. Even the players who choose to down-tune the strings to C or even B tuning will find that the low end remains thoroughly clear and focused. Two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way toggle switch constitute the classic SG controls unit. Tune-o-matic bridge with stoptail bar features nickel plating (the rest of the hardware, too). Set of vintage tuning machines wraps the specs list.
