Charvel`s Desolation Series is a line of metal-oriented guitars with affordable price tags. There is no Desolation with MSRP above $1,000, but top models pack four digit guitar punch. Two new shapes with five variants were introduced at the NAMM Show this January. Star shape got DST-1 ST, DST-1 FR, DST-3 FR models, while the Soloist shape got DX-1 st and DX-1 FR. DST-ST is the top model of the star section with fixed bridge. It starts off with mahogany body and maple neck. There are no bindings or pickguards. Snow white, black, transparent black, transparent red and transparent blue smear are color options available. Transparent colored versions also have maple tops. The bridge on all of them is tune-o-matic with a stoptail bar and black nickel plating. In the pickup department, EMG81/85 combo is commanding the situation. They are controlled through master volume and three-way toggle switch. the neck is made of maple and features a neck-thru joint. The fingerboard is made of rosewood and sports 24 jumbo frets with abalone sharktooth inlays and 1-11/16" wide plastic string nut. Fingerboard radius is compound and measures from 12" to 16". Other features include 25-1/2" scale, black nickel hardware and die-cast tuners complete the specs. Black and snow white color options have the MSRP set at $733.32, and transparent black, transparent red and transparent blue smear cost $866.65.
