Schecter Omen Active-6 Review

Schecter`s Omen Series is known for it`s passive Schecter humbuckers and their distinctive sound. One might argue that active pickups fall into the domain of unrealistic expectations in the price range where Omen series models reside. Nevertheless, Schecter breaks the grounds once more as it introduces Omen Active-6 model to the line. It is a solid bodied double cutaway model with a standard Schecter shape and body made of basswood. This model has a carved top and ivoroid binding around it. Black gloss option gets regular ivoroid and black satin gets aged ivoroid binding. The bridge option is a standard six-saddle tune-o-matic with black chrome plating and string-through-body construction. The pickups compartment is where the big difference occurs. Instead of standard passive Schecter Diamond Plus humbuckers, Duncan Designed active HB-105 humbuckers are placed. However, the controls remain the same and list master volume, master tone and a three-way toggle switch. And the maple neck is also a standard Omen appointment with a bolt-on joint and rosewood fingerboard. 24 extra jumbo frets, set of pearloid semi-gothic position inlays, 25-1/2" scale and Schecter tuners complete the spec. The MSRP for Omen Active-6 is set at $569.
