Have you ever tried an instrument and instantly felt like "That's it!"? Paul Reed Smith's Special is one of those. Superb in almost every way, Special will surely make you a happy owner giving you the best value for money.

Feature-wise this guitar is perfect! There is no need to add or remove anything, and that is quite an achievement by Paul Reed Smith, considering that it's quite hard to please every musician's desire, in order to grade an instrument such as Special with such a high score when it comes to guitar features. That means that Paul Reed Smith has constructed more or less a guitar with perfect features, so if you decide to buy Special you will be more than happy with it.

Top quality guitars are easy to recognize, and Special is surely one of those, and you can tell that by the first glance at it. The finish is great, and it's not surprising, taken into the account that Paul Reed Smith is an experienced guitar manufacturer with long tradition in building great guitars. Special is set up for playing right out of the box, but if you wish to adjust it, it's not a problem at all. Whatever changes you want to make, it will keep its redefined shape because the hardware is solid, and yet easily adjustable.

If you need an instrument that withstands live performances and studio sessions, rehearsals and practicing, you should rest assured that Paul Reed Smith's Special is the right choice. This instrument is definitely built to last and will do so , through fire and flames. Paul Reed Smith has the knowledge and experience you can rely on, and that kind of experience is well built into Special.

I walked into a guitar store planning on finally buying that Les Paul '68 Custom reissue I always wanted but the LPs on display were banged up. I wanted an axe to be perfect if I wasn't going to buy used on eBay. Out of boredom, I thought I would give that cool looking PRS a try. The difference between that PRS and the average Gibson were amazing.

The tone knob is passive but with a great -- and useful-- range. Dial it down and use the neck hum if you want to play power chords. But in general the humbuckers are more sparkly than crunchy. The single coil is quacky, but because I have EMGs on my Strat, I found it to be noisy. That to me is the only downside of the guitar at all, but EMG singles are virtually noiseless so it may be unfair of me. The single is close to the strings, so it may foul up your picking, depending on your style.

The selling points are feel, looks, feel, flexibility, feel, sound. Have I mentioned that the guitar feels amazing?

A Ten top in Santana Yellow is amazing. I couldn't find any flaws anywhere. The poly finish is more consistent than nitro (I prefer lacquer to polyester because of this). Workmanship and setup were also flawless. No worries about using this without a backup.

It's expensive (I paid $2850 new...yes, the people at Guitar Center will dig deep into a price if you do it nicely) but I was looking for a holy-moley sort of guitar.

So gorgeous. I had to give the store employee extra time playing the guitar before he would part with it but that must be worth karma points.
