Kingfisher is one of two SE series solid-bodied basses PRS has unveiled for 2014. It comes together with the mighty Kestler Bass. As opposed to the Kestler`s alder wings, Kingfisher flies on the swamp ash wings. The center of the body is made of maple and walnut (same as on the Kestler model). Kingfisher is a flat-top four-stringer with a deep cutaway for effortless reach. Natural, Scarlet Red and Tortoise Shell color options are finished in gloss and fit with the standard chrome-plated hardware. Bridge on this model is available in both the top load and string-through variants, as PRS aims at both types of players. Pickups combo includes a pair of PRS humbuckers, instead of single-coils found on the Kestler. Combined with premium class tonewoods and neck-through-body construction, SE 4B H pickups give an unreal level of power and sustain. Controls unit is a simple one, it consists of two volume knobs and a master tone knob. Maple/walnut neck is a five piece with the series standard SE Bass contour in the back. On it`s top, there is a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with classic PRS Bird inlays. Hipshot tuners wrap the specs list.

I played both the Kestrel and the Kingfisher this past weekend. The frets were TERRIBLE on both guitars. They came from the factory this way. The luthier tried to make them playable. In order for them to be playable the string height had to be extremely high. I had looked forward to playing these basses, as I have been a PRS fan for a long time.this was a disappointment. Both guitars are going back to the sales rep as soon as he comes again. I hope this was just a bad batch and is not indicative of something going on at PRS because this is definitely up to their usual standards!
