Hagstrom is a brand with a long tradition in Europe, despite being somewhat of a rarity here in the states. Their golden period was from the late 1950s to the early 1980s, when the production ceased. In 2004, it was renewed and Hagstrom is fighting bravely to reclaim it`s former glory. Viking Bass is a reissue of the Concorde Bass and it`s pretty amazingly accurate in construction and design fields. Tonally, Hagstrom made a compromise between the old Concorde tone and versatility which is a must for today`s basses. Viking is a thin hollow-body bass made of laminated maple. Vintage pickguard, dual "f" holes, two-piece bridge and a pair of minibucker pickups are featured on the top. Set in maple neck is topped with a 22-fret resinator fingerboard.

Mine is actually a Concorde I bass, made in 1967. It's been upgraded with a fixed, angled rosewood bridge and set neck. I loved it when I bought it in '73, and it's still my main squeeze in the bass dept. It has a lovely, woody tone and is the closest thing to a stand-up that I've heard yet. Tobacco burst with Roto-sound wire wounds. Monster response. No problems that weren't of my own making with it, either.
