Precision Bass was the first four-stringer in Fender`s catalog. Just like the Telecaster, Precision was designed by Leo Fender, himself. The interesting fact is that the man who created Precision, Telecaster and Strat never played guitar. Today, more than 60 years after it`s creation, Fender Precision Bass is the world`s most popular bass guitar and Fender`s primary four-stringer. Modern Player Precision is made to deliver modern tone along with the classic looks. Vintage styling of this 34" scaled giant is very successfully combined with two full-sized humbucking pickups, one in the bridge and one in the neck position. They come with master tone and two volume knobs. Neck on this model is made of maple and it features the classic 20-fret maple fingerboard on it`s top.

This is a kind of hybrid bass with a misplaced product title: it doesn't look 'modern' but harks back to a 50s Precision '55 shape with not one but 2 x 70s humbucker pickups. That said, it's one fine bass and represents excellent value. It sounds pure Fender but the neck'bucker is very powerful indeed as it 'gathers' a lot of string vibration so unless you roll it back you'll get boom. I put the tone and bridge p'us on full and use the neck p/u control to adjust the sound and it works. Oddly, the bass, made in China, has no model name on the headstock, just 'Fender' and the instrument itself is a curious blend of high- and so-so- quality components. Pickups, bridge, tuners and comfortable neck are very good, pots are only ok.( I intend to rewire mine with CTS pots, capacitor and better wire,) It's a pity it's not strung through the body, but the high-mass bridge with its brass saddles do the job well. This bass is positioned as an 'entry-level'model but it's well built and will doubtless stand up to regular use and TLC. It goes to show, though, that place of manufacture is becoming increasingly irrelevant in a globalised world. This Tele bass(or is it a Precision??) is one fine Fender and it delivers the goods. It's light and very playable, too! It's well worth the price of around £400, though it doeasn't come with case or even a gigbag.
