Artisan series is a line of electric basses made by Cort Guitars. This series aims mainly at the intermediate section of the market, though the models with the Custom tag are actually competing in the upper intermediate segment. Custom Artisan models feature exotic woods, such as zebra wood, spalted maple and wenge (wenge is a standard neck wood for the entire series). A4 Custom Z is a solid and double-cut four-stringer with 34" scale, neck-through-body construction and 24-fret fingerboard. It`s body is made of mahogany wings and maple/wenge neck. On the top, mahogany is covered with zebra wood cap. Standard four-saddled hardtail bridge and two active humbuckers are installed on the top. Maple/wenge neck is topped with a 24-fret fingerboard made of rosewood.

I've been playing 35 years, been through a dozen basses. '72 tele, mid to upper range ibanezes, Yamaha, aria pro ii matsomoku, carvin lb70, peavey cirrus, etc. I play upper register a lot, a lot of chording, rarely effects- some reverb, dirt and comp on occasion. Fusion stuff. Clean 90% . This bass does it for me. The barts are a notch above the mk 1's, excellent range, I can't find anything to complain about. A little heavy. I won't play a bolt -on anymore, although I had a Shecter with the same sustain. Hardware is great, finish and workmanship excellent. In my humble opinion you can't do better for a production bass. Not as unique as my aria, but as good as the carvin unless you want to hit their custom shop for a couple grand . I got mine for $700. Happy!
