D-18 Authentic 1957 is one exquisite dreadnought made by legendary Martin Guitars. It is a faithful recreation of the prewar Martin dreads. It comes with a full-sized, all-solid body made of mahogany back and sides with Sitka spruce sound board. Prewar bracing on this model adds a strong vintage flavor to the overall tone. Braces are made of Sitka spruce, as well. Sunburst was huge back in the day when acoustic six-stringers ruled the scene and today Martin pays homage to the original sunbursts assigning burst finishes to Authentic models. Bridge section on D18 is equipped with a top class solid ebony bridge made with belly contour. Neck is made of mahogany and it sports the vintage barrell contour in the back. It`s topped with a 20-fret ebony fingerboard.

The Martin D-18 Authentic is for serious guitarists. These guitars are extremely well made, have 1937 specs and will take some getting used to. The Adirondak tops are stiff and need to be broken in which may take the average play years to do. If you like narrow necks or smaller bodied guitars, this is not for you. Flatpickers will enjoy the complex tone and the mixing of notes when played. Just a great instrument. Play several, since they vary some in "openess" of the sound. Happy hunting.
