Taylor is at the forefront of the acoustic guitar industry with it`s wide selection of exceptional models and series. Their catalog also features electric section, while the acoustics are divided into two main parts - acoustic and acoustic-electric. Acoustic-electric segment is being updated for 2013 with a brand new body shape, the grand orchestra. Grand orchestra combines some of the best features of already exiting body shapes in Taylor catalog. It all started as a redesign of the jumbo shape, but ended with becoming a completely new body contour built from scratch. Wide shoulders and bit narrower waist than on the dreadnought are paired with wide bottom. Body of grand orchestra is also a bit deeper than the standard for dreads and jumbos. Hybrid bracing is also designed from scratch. This all results in strong low end with rich and well defined tone throughout the spectrum. Also, this model gives balanced response and volume of the entire spectrum is even. 918e, 618e and 518e are the first models to feature this new body contour. They come in limited numbers and feature no cutaways. 918e is the most luxurious of the three and it is made of Indian rosewood back and sides with solid spruce sound board. Indian rosewood binding, abalone rosette and high gloss finish decorate the top. Natural and Sunburst are available. Bridge is made of ebony and it features ebony pins and bone saddle. Taylor Expression System is installed in the electronics department. Tropical mahogany neck is attached to the body with a dovetail joint. On it`s top Taylor installs a standard 20-fret ebony fingerboard with 1.75" bone nut and Cindy inlays. Gotoh tuners are plated in gold and scale is 25-1/2" long. The MSRP is set at $5,658 for 918e.
