518e is one of three limited edition models introduced by Taylor Guitars in order to promote the new grand orchestra body contour. This contour that is now being introduced, started it`s life as an attempt to refresh the already successful and popular jumbo shape. But, instead, ended up as the fifth original body contour made by Taylor Guitars and it will make it`s debut on the 2013 Anaheim NAMM show. This contour is made in order to give players as complete and rounded off tone, as possible with a big-bodied guitar. Construction-wise, this model is slightly bigger in volume than the dreadnought, it`s little longer and deeper. Shoulders are wide and slip into a narrow waist, from where, expand into a wide and round bottom. Also, Taylor luthiers have developed special bracing pattern for this contour. There are three models in this initial run. Besides the 518e, Taylor is introducing 618e and 918e. Allthree come in very limited quantities and have no cutaways. 518e is the least expensive of the three grand orchestras and comes with a body made of solid tropical mahogany back and sides with solid sitka spruce top. top is flat and Taylor offers several alternative top options with extra charge. Natural color with high gloss finish and medium stain burst are the only color choices available. Bridge is made of ebony and sports the standard Taylor contour. TUSQ saddle and ebony pins are featured on it. Taylor`s Expression System electronics suit this steel-stringer`s tone perfectly. Neck is made of tropical mahogany, just like the back and side panels of the body. It features standard contour and dovetail joint. It is topped with a 20-fret fingerboard made of ebony. Diamond inlays and 1.75" wide TUSQ nut complete the fingerboard. Taylor tuners with gold plating and 25-1/2" scale wrap the specs list. MSRP for this model is set at $3,518.
