Martin`s Performing Artist series is oriented towards the players who perform on-stage regularly, as well as everyone else who wants a high quality stage-ready acoustic guitar. DCPA1 Madagascar Rosewood is one of the 2012 novelties, and it was unveiled at the NAMM 2012 Show in Anaheim, Ca. DCPA1 Madagascar Rosewood starts off with a dreadnought cutaway body made of Madagascar rosewood back and sides and solid spruce top. The top on this dreadnought is flat and bound in grained ivoroid. Also, it sports a Delmar pickguard with tortoise color and style 45 sound hole rosette. DCPA1 comes in natural color with gloss finish. The bridge is made of solid black ebony with bone saddle and string pins. Electronics department features Fishman F1 Aura Plus setup with volume and tone knobs mounted onto the upper side of the guitar. The neck is made of select hardwood with performing artist profile and dovetail neck joint set at the 14th fret. The fingerboard is, just like the bridge, made of solid black ebony and it carries 20 frets with alternative torch inlays and 1-3/4" wide bone string nut. Other features include: standard X scalloped bracing made of Adirondack spruce, 25-2/5" scale and gold plated hardware. The MSRP for DCPA1 Madagascar Rosewood is set at $6,499.

I own and have owned several big name guitars; Gibson J-45 Custom, Taylor 410ce, Taylor 914ce, Taylor 916ce, Martin OMCPA4, etc... Of course, each of these guitars served their purposes, and I would not knock any of them... But out of all of the guitars I have owned, this guitar is hands down, the best sounding of them all. The base tones are so perfect, they pull you right into the music. For my warm ups, sometimes, I will just strum the Em and G chords several times, in order to feel the warmth of the guitar. The top strings ring nice and crisp also, and the F1 Aura + electronics are world class. I have to admit, that for playing finger style, I prefer my Taylor for the lower action and a little tighter sting width, but for picking and strumming this guitar is the guitar to beat. The aesthetics of the guitar are absolutely beautiful as well. The only complaint I would have is that, in my opinion, the binding would have looked better in dark wood (e.g. rosewood or mahogany). The grained ivoroid is nice, but wood has nicer feel and look in my opinion. That being said, the torch inspired inlays are a nice touch, and the Madagascar rosewood is stunning. The paleness of the Adirondak Spruce top, contrast beautifully with the inlays, gold hardware, and the other woods. Overall this guitar is a very impressive instrument. In summary this guitar has an absolutely beautiful sound, great aesthetics, and world class performance, I give this guitar 9.5 out of 10.
